Just So Stories – Rudyard Kipling

E5 and I loved this collection of stories which I  read aloud to her. My favourite was ‘How the Camel Got His Hump’. The stories are short and funny, and each have a little message or something for the reader to think about. We have an edition illustrated by the author and he’s written lovely captions too.

I’m so glad we own a copy of this one as I’m sure they are stories we’ll read again. And again. And again as each child grows into them.

I bought the kids a pack of coloured plasticine and let the play. E5 created these little ones. While it’s fun and creative, it’s also good for their fine motor skill development.

Some photos of E5’s first day of ballet.

(Some pencil grip practice and tracing.)

And we’re off!

It’s been a great week so far. A little challenging simply because R10 months is teething and needy, but E5 is a STAR! (pics coming….can’t upload right now)

She’s been such a good girl and has enjoyed starting her more formal learning. After breakfast and getting dressed and making beds, we start with some book work at the table. We have worked from different things each day and as I’ve mentioned before we are focussing on Reading, Writing (I mean handwriting as well as spelling) and Maths. This week E5 also has memorised a Bible verse for the first time and has done very well.

I’m so glad we’re off to a good start. I try not to think too far ahead in terms of what we’ll learn when and what materials we’ll use because it’s overwhelming and I’m also learning that it’s really just best to wait and see.

Swimming lessons started last week and went well. Both B3 and E5 are keen to go and have fun there. I’m sure they will love it! E5 starts ballet lessons this afternoon and is asking me how many hours to go, and how long is the drive there and can I do her hair now etc. etc. so she is certainly excited.

E5 I am so proud of you! and I’m so glad I get to be at home teaching you! You’re a Star!

A cute planting project for little hands. Not only will the children learn about seeds, but it will beautify the kitchen and flavour our meals.

Today E5 went outside and picked this weed daffodil. Then she drew it. It’s very Charlotte Mason, but I didn’t have anything to do with it. I didn’t suggest she do this. It was entirely her idea.

Then she wrote this with my help. The second part says “Signed by…”

And then she decided to add a black vase with blue water. Of course because there is water, there must also be a fish blowing bubbles.
