Does any one else get as excited as I do about fresh school supplies?
We have our books ready. This term we will focus on reading and writing, with a little maths and some Bible memory verses.
For reading we are using Jolly Phonics. This also includes some handwriting practice and spelling. I’ll also have Emma practice her writing by doing some word dictation and working up to simple sentences. This also helps her spelling.
Maths will be mostly workbook based. This year I’ve just bought some books from Whitcoulls but next year I’m looking at either Singapore Maths, or Horizon Maths. (Links later)
I’ll start introducing Bible memory verses… not sure how often…perhaps weekly, but we’ll see how we go.
Other activities will include Ballet lessons, swimming lessons and we’ll do art and cooking regularly too. And of course reading aloud will continue. We’ll probably read in the afternoons. You can see what we’ve been reading in the book lists above.
"To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark." Victor Hugo
